2.1 Product Positioning

The ZLY450 belongs to the ZLY series of hardened tooth surface cylindrical gear reducers and is a two-stage transmission (double reduction) model in this series. The term “two-stage transmission” means that the reducer uses two stages of gear meshing to achieve speed reduction and torque amplification, allowing for a much larger transmission ratio range compared to single-stage designs, while being more compact than three-stage units.

The ZLY series reducers are designed and manufactured according to the national standard JB/T8853-2001, using external meshing involute helical cylindrical gears with parallel shaft arrangement. This series also includes ZDY (single-stage), ZSY (three-stage), and ZFY (four-stage) models, where different stages correspond to different transmission ratio ranges and load capacities. As one of the mainstream medium-to-large specifications in this series, the ZLY450 has a nominal center distance of 450 mm and is widely used in industrial transmission applications.ZLY280II

Taking “ZLY450-18-I” as an example:

  • ZLY – Series code: Z stands for cylindrical gear reducer, L stands for two-stage transmission, Y stands for hardened tooth surface.

  • 18 – Nominal transmission ratio, representing the ratio of input speed to output speed.

  • I – Assembly type code, indicating the spatial arrangement of the input shaft relative to the output shaft.

III. Structural Composition

3.1 Overall Structure

The ZLY450 reducer adopts a parallel-shaft design, with the input shaft and output shaft arranged in parallel. Its basic transmission principle is that the motor drives the high-speed shaft (input shaft), which passes through two stages of helical cylindrical gear reduction, and then the low-speed shaft (output shaft) delivers the required speed and torque. The unit is typically installed horizontally, directly connected to the motor via a coupling, while the output end is connected to the host equipment.

3.2 Core Components

The core transmission components of the ZLY450 reducer mainly include the high-speed shaft, the intermediate shaft, the low-speed shaft, and the matching helical cylindrical gears. All gears are made of high-strength low-carbon alloy steel, which is case-carburized and quenched, then precision ground. The housing is made of high-strength cast iron with sufficient rigidity and vibration resistance, ensuring meshing accuracy of the gears under heavy-load conditions.zly400

3.3 Interchangeability and Modular Design

The main parameters of the ZLY series reducers, such as center distance and nominal transmission ratio, are optimized by computer design, and the main components have good interchangeability. This means that some key parts are interchangeable among different specifications within the same series, greatly reducing the user’s spare parts inventory and maintenance difficulty.

The ZLY hardened reducer is available in 14 specifications, covering a nominal center distance range from 160 mm to 710 mm, with the ZLY450 being a medium-to-large specification. Each specification offers 11 nominal transmission ratios: 6.3, 7.1, 8, 9, 10, 11.2, 12.5, 14, 16, 18, and 20. IV. Performance Characteristics

4.1 Core Manufacturing Process

The performance advantages of the ZLY450 hardened reducer primarily come from its advanced gear manufacturing process. After case carburizing and quenching, the tooth surface hardness reaches HRC 54–62, while the core remains sufficiently tough, creating an ideal material combination of “hard surface, tough core”. After carburizing and quenching, the gears are precision ground using CNC gear grinding, achieving tooth profile and lead accuracy up to Grade 6 of international standards, with good contact and smooth meshing.

4.2 Transmission Efficiency

Thanks to the precision machining process and optimized tooth profile parameters, the transmission efficiency of the ZLY450 reducer is outstanding. As a two-stage transmission, its efficiency exceeds 93%. Higher transmission efficiency means lower energy loss and lower operating costs, which is particularly important for industrial equipment that runs continuously for long periods.

4.3 Load Capacity and Reliability

Compared with traditional soft-tooth-surface reducers, the ZLY450 hardened reducer offers significantly higher load capacity—several times higher in some indicators. This feature makes it especially suitable for heavy machinery and equipment that demand high torque and reliability, such as belt conveyors, bucket elevators, mixers, hoists, crushers, and rolling mills. At the same time, thanks to the high gear precision and high tooth surface hardness, the product exhibits excellent resistance to pitting and scoring, resulting in a longer service life.5

4.4 Running Smoothness

Helical cylindrical gears inherently provide smooth meshing and high contact ratio. Moreover, because all gears in the ZLY450 are CNC ground, meshing accuracy is further ensured, so the reducer runs smoothly with low noise. Additionally, the ZLY450 is compact, lightweight, and small in volume, occupying less installation space for the same load capacity.
